## The Way of Perfection
BODY. The external part of the human composite (body and soul) ([[tj-way-ccel-31|31.2]]–[[tj-way-ccel-31|3]]). Its senses or powers are mainly those of sight and hearing ([[tj-way-ccel-28|28.5]]–[[tj-way-ccel-28|6]]; [[tj-way-ccel-31|31.2]]; [[tj-way-ccel-34|34.12]]), which cannot on their own perceive the Lord, truly present in the Blessed Sacrament ([[tj-way-ccel-34|34.5]]), or when he speaks to the heart ([[tj-way-ccel-24|24.5]]). The more comforts the body receives, the more needs it discovers ([[tj-way-ccel-11|11.2]]); its senses can be a source of distraction ([[tj-way-ccel-28|28.5]]); thus it can become an enemy in the spiritual battle of this life ([[tj-way-ccel-11|11.5]]). The body should be put to work for one's daily sustenance ([[tj-way-ccel-34|34.4]]). In sickness it should be cared for, and compassion should be shown toward the sick ([[tj-way-ccel-11|11.1]]). The devil tempts people toward bodily penances that can ruin their health ([[tj-way-ccel-19|19.9]]–[[tj-way-ccel-19|10]]). In the prayer of quiet the body experiences rest and delight ([[tj-way-ccel-31|31.2]]–[[tj-way-ccel-31|3]]). In rapture, awareness through the exterior senses is lost ([[tj-way-ccel-32|32.12]]).
