# Covenant ## Catechism of the Catholic Church A solemn agreement between human beings or between God and a human being involving mutual commitments or guarantees. The Bible refers to God's covenants with Noah, [[abraham|Abraham]], and Moses as leader of the chosen people, Israel. In the Old Testament or Covenant, God revealed his law through Moses and prepared his people for salvation through the prophets. In the New Testament or Covenant, Christ established a new and eternal covenant through his own sacrificial death and Resurrection. The Christian economy is the new and definitive Covenant which will never pass away, and no new public revelation is to be expected before the glorious manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ ([[1.1.2.1.pg#^ccc-56|56]], [[1.1.2.1.pg#^ccc-62|62]], [[1.1.2.1.ph#^ccc-66|66]]). _See_ Old Testament; New Testament. ## Ignatius Catholic Study Bible **Covenant** Jesus' Eucharistic blood of the covenant: [[matthew-26#^matthew-26-28|Mt 26:28]]; [[mark-14#^mark-14-24|Mk 14:24]]; [[luke-22#^luke-22-20|Lk 22:20]]; [[1-corinthians-11#^1-corinthians-11-25|1 Cor 11:25]] Jesus is the mediator of a new covenant: [[hebrews-09#^hebrews-09-15|Heb 9:15]]; [[hebrews-12#^hebrews-12-24|12:24]] Ministers of a new covenant: [[2-corinthians-03#^2-corinthians-03-6|2 Cor 3:6]] New Covenant: [[luke-22#^luke-22-20|Lk 22:20]]; [[1-corinthians-11#^1-corinthians-11-25|1 Cor 11:25]]; [[2-corinthians-03#^2-corinthians-03-14|2 Cor 3:14]]; [[hebrews-08#^hebrews-08-8|Heb 8:8-10, 13]]; [[hebrews-09#^hebrews-09-15|9:15]]; [[hebrews-12#^hebrews-12-24|12:24]] Old Covenant: [[2-corinthians-03#^2-corinthians-03-14|2 Cor 3:14]]; [[hebrews-08#^hebrews-08-6|Heb 8:6-7, 13]] Two covenants: [[galatians-04#^galatians-04-24|Gal 4:24]] *See also* [[atonement]]; [[jesus-christ|Jesus]]; [[redeemer-redemption|Redemption]] ### Sources [[index-of-doctrines|Index of Doctrines]]
