Relinquishing what stands in the way of giving oneself to the All without reserve ([[tj-way-ccel-08|8.1]]; [[tj-way-ccel-32|32.9]]); in it one embraces the Creator rather than the creature, cares not for what comes to an end but for eternal things ([[tj-way-ccel-08|8.1]]; [[tj-way-ccel-32|32.9]]; [[tj-way-ccel-03|3.4]]). Outward detachment is necessary until one gains from the Lord a freedom in regard to the attachment ([[tj-way-ccel-08|8.4]]; [[tj-way-ccel-10|10.1]]). The freedom from attachment gives one dominion over all creation ([[tj-way-ccel-10|10.3]]). An aid to detachment is the thought of how quickly everything comes to an end ([[tj-way-ccel-10|10.2]]). Along with humility, it is a virtue loved by Christ, who was never seen without it ([[tj-way-ccel-10|10.3]]). Through the two virtues, one escapes from Egypt and finds the true manna ([[tj-way-ccel-10|10.4]]). These two virtues cannot be present without love for others ([[tj-way-ccel-16|16.2]]). The objects of detachment include ourselves, our bodies, and our honor ([[tj-way-ccel-10|10.5]]; [[tj-way-ccel-12|12.5]]).
