# Mary ## Catechism of the Catholic Church The mother of Jesus. Because she is the mother of Jesus--Son of God and second Person of the Blessed Trinity--according to the flesh, she is rightly called the Mother of God (_Theotokos_) ([[1.1.3.1.pv#^ccc-148|148]], [[1.2.2.3.p1k#^ccc-495|495]]).
