# Mary
## Catechism of the Catholic Church
The mother of Jesus. Because she is the mother of Jesus--Son of God and second Person of the Blessed Trinity--according to the flesh, she is rightly called the Mother of God (_Theotokos_) ([[1.1.3.1.pv#^ccc-148|148]], [[1.2.2.3.p1k#^ccc-495|495]]). Mary is also called "full of grace," and "Mother of the Church," and in Christian prayer and devotion, "Our Lady," the "Blessed Virgin Mary," and the "New Eve" ([[1.2.3.8.p23#^ccc-722|722]], [[1.2.3.8.p23#^ccc-726|726]], [[1.2.3.9.p2c#^ccc-963|963]]). _See_ Virgin Mary.
