That President Whitmore was thundering _”we will not go quietly into the night”_ into his megaphone. Instead of an alien invasion, we face something worse, political forces that, like the aliens in _Independence Day_, move through our Country like locusts, devouring rights, resources, and dignity until there’s nothing left to take. I am saddened by Americans. By the ones who cheer as human rights are violated, when cruelty towards others is both vulgar and sharp, and by the ones that think _”we just need to keep our heads down and wait”_ as they poorly understand the lessons of history.
