# Priesthood ## Catechism of the Catholic Church _Of the faithful_: The priestly people of God. Christ has made of his Church a "kingdom of priests," and gives the faithful a share in his priesthood through the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation ([[1.2.3.9.p28#^ccc-784|784]], [[2.1.1.2.p31#^ccc-1119|1119]], [[2.2.3.6.p4t#^ccc-1546|1546]]). (2) _Ministerial_: The ministerial priesthood received in the Sacrament of [[holy-orders|Holy Orders]] differs in essence from this common priesthood of all the faithful. It has as its purpose to serve the priesthood of all the faithful by building up and guiding the Church in the name of Christ, who is Head of the Body ([[2.2.3.6.p4t#^ccc-1547|1547]]). _See_Priesthood of Christ; Presbyter. ## Ignatius Catholic Study Bible **Priesthood** Church as a royal priesthood: [[1-peter-02#^1-peter-02-5|1 Pet 2:5, 9]]; [[revelation-01#^revelation-01-6|Rev 1:6]]; [[revelation-05#^revelation-05-10|5:10]]; [[revelation-20#^revelation-20-6|20:6]] Jesus Christ's priesthood. *See* Jesus Ministerial priesthood. *See* Elders ### Sources [[index-of-doctrines|Index of Doctrines]] ## Divine Intimacy Meditations - Priesthood — Function and dignity: [[68-the-priesthood#Meditation 1|68,1]], [[68-the-priesthood#Meditation 2|68,2]]; - perpetuates among us the work of Jesus: [[68-the-priesthood#Meditation 2|68,2]]; - is organ of communication and increase in the life of the Mystical Body of Jesus: [[341-spiritual-paternity-and-maternity#Meditation 1|341,1]]; - duties toward —: respect, gratitude, and prayer: [[68-the-priesthood#Meditation 1|68,1]], [[68-the-priesthood#Meditation 2|68,2]]; - call to — and correspondence: [[75-vocation#Meditation 1|75,1]]; [[76-correspondence-to-vocation#Meditation 1|76,1]], [[76-correspondence-to-vocation#Meditation 2|76,2]]. ### Source - [[68-the-priesthood|68.
