# Prophet ## Catechism of the Catholic Church One sent by God to form the people of the Old Covenant in the hope of salvation. The prophets are often authors of books of the Old Testament ([[1.2.3.8.p22#^ccc-702|702]]). The prophetic books constitute a major section of the Old Testament of the Bible ([[1.1.2.1.pg#^ccc-64|64]], [[1.1.2.3.pr#^ccc-120|120]], [[1.2.2.3.p1l#^ccc-522|522]], [[4.1.1.1.p91#^ccc-2581|2581]]).
