# Justice
## Catechism of the Catholic Church
The cardinal moral virtue which consists in the constant and firm will to give their due to God and to neighbor ([[3.1.1.7.p65#^ccc-1807|1807]]). _Original_ justice refers to the state of holiness in which God created our first parents ([[1.2.1.1.6.p1b#^ccc-375|375]]). _Commutative_ justice, which obliges respect for the rights of the other, is required by the seventh commandment; it is distinguished from _legal_justice, which concerns what the citizen owes to the community, and _distributive_ justice, which regulates what the community owes its citizens in proportion to their contributions and needs ([[3.2.2.7.p8b#^ccc-2411|2411]]). _See_ Social Justice.
