# Venial sin ## Catechism of the Catholic Church Sin which does not destroy the divine life in the soul, as does mortal sin, though it diminishes and wounds it ([[3.1.1.8.p6c#^ccc-1855|1855]]). Venial sin is the failure to observe necessary moderation, in lesser matters of the moral law, or in grave matters acting without full knowledge or complete consent ([[3.1.1.8.p6c#^ccc-1862|1862]]). ## Divine Intimacy - diminishes the vigor of charity and hinders its development: 101,1; - when venial — is deliberate and habitual, it leads to tepidity 101,1; 153,1; - venial — always includes a transgression more or less light of the law of God: 102,1; - conduct in case of venial — caused by frailty or inadvertence: 101,2. - [[101-venial-sin|101.
