Very little is historically certain about his life; the early Carmelite tradition holds that he was martyred near Licata in Sicily, and his feast has been observed in the order since 1458. According to later accounts he rebuked a man of rank for a grave public scandal and was struck down for it; earlier tradition simply names him a Sicilian Carmelite who died for the faith. He was the first Carmelite to be venerated as a saint. *Source: Catholic Encyclopedia, "The Carmelite Order"* *See also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angelus_of_Jerusalem* ## Notes - martyr — 33
