> [[09-figures|↑ Back to TOC]] # Saint Augustine of Hippo ## Biography Augustine was born at Tagaste in Numidia (present-day Algeria) on 13 November, 354. His mother, Monica, was a devout Christian; his father, Patricius, was pagan. After years of intellectual wandering and a dissolute youth, Augustine was baptized at Milan on Easter Vigil, 387, under the influence of Saint Ambrose. He was ordained priest in 391 and became Bishop of Hippo in 396, a post he held until his death on 28 August, 430.
