# Saint George Preca
## Biography
George Preca was born in Valletta, Malta, on February 12, 1880. He was ordained a priest in 1906 and founded the Society of Christian Doctrine (M.U.S.E.U.M.) in 1907, a lay apostolate dedicated to catechesis and the spread of the faith. His work faced initial ecclesiastical opposition, but the society was eventually approved and spread beyond Malta. Known for his deep prayer life, his love of Scripture, and his care for the poor and sick, he was revered throughout his life. He died in Blata l-Bajda, Malta, on July 26, 1962. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on May 9, 2001, and canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on June 3, 2007.
