# Vocation ## Catechism of the Catholic Church The calling or destiny we have in this life and hereafter. God has created the human person to love and serve him; the fulfillment of this vocation is eternal happiness ([[00.prologue-1#^ccc-1|1]], [[1.2.1.1.6.p1b#^ccc-358|358]], [[3.1.1.0.p5f#^ccc-1700|1700]]). Christ calls the faithful to the perfection of holiness ([[1.2.3.9.p29#^ccc-825|825]]). The vocation of the laity consists in seeking the Kingdom of God by engaging in temporal affairs and directing them according to God's will ([[1.2.3.9.p2a#^ccc-898|898]]). Priestly and religious vocations are dedicated to the service of the Church as the universal sacrament of salvation (cf. [[1.2.3.9.p2a#^ccc-873|873]]; [[1.2.3.9.p2a#^ccc-931|931]]). ## Vatican II - vocation (fostering priestly vocations) — "The duty of fostering vocations pertains to the whole Christian community" — [[optatam-totius#^ot-2|OT ¶2]] - vocation (missionary) — "He inspires the missionary vocation in the hearts of individuals" — [[ag-04#^ag-23|AG ¶23]] ## Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church ![[sd-10-index-v#Vocation]] ## Divine Intimacy - To the Christian life: [[75-vocation#Meditation 1|75,1]]; - to consecration to God: [[75-vocation#Meditation 1|75,1]]; - privilege and gratuity of — [[75-vocation#Meditation 2|75,2]]; - correspondence to — [[76-correspondence-to-vocation#Meditation 1|76,1]], [[76-correspondence-to-vocation#Meditation 2|76,2]]; [[322-the-divine-invitation#Meditation 2|322,2]]; [[386-presentation-bvm#Meditation 1|386,1]]; - progressiveness of the divine call: [[76-correspondence-to-vocation#Meditation 2|76,2]]; - each day requires a new response, a new acceptance according to the grace of the moment: [[322-the-divine-invitation#Meditation 2|322,2]]; - infidelity to —: [[134-the-supper-at-bethany#Meditation 2|134,2]]; [[322-the-divine-invitation#Meditation 2|322,2]]; - fidelity to — requires the breaking of every attachment: [[134-the-supper-at-bethany#Meditation 2|134,2]]; - cloistered — is an apostolic, universal —: [[324-various-forms-of-the-apostolate#Meditation 2|324,2]]. - See: CONSECRATION TO GOD.
